• Our tutors were students, too, and some still are! They are required to have taken (and aced!) each course they wish to tutor; this ensures they possess the knowledge and expertise of the subject matter and enables them to guide you or your student to successfully complete the course yourself. Tangerine tutors have earned college-level degrees in math/science-related studies, and have a strong background in academia, as well as tutoring!

  • The role of the tutor is to aid, guide, and coach students by providing supplemental academic support. Tutors are not teachers/instructors; they are not utilized as substitutes for class attendance, nor are they responsible for teaching the material. Rather, tutors help students clarify course content and develop effective ways to learn the material. Tutors can also provide resources, strategies and study skills, and homework support. It is our goal to help students gain knowledge and confidence in their work by asking questions and providing problem solving techniques.

  • All new students are offered a free 30-minute consultation. This is not meant to be used for instruction, but rather as an introduction between tutor and student: a tutoring “meet and greet.” This allows students to get a feel for their tutor’s instruction style, and tutors can assess the student’s needs and expectations. This is a good time to ask any questions you have about tutoring and tell your tutor about your strengths and weaknesses.

  • We currently offer tutoring in a range of mathematics and science courses (sorry, no English/Language Arts, History, etc. at this time), ranging from middle school through college. We do not currently offer elementary school support, and hope to have specialized tutors for that soon!

  • Please contact us here, or email us at office@tangerinetutoringllc.com and tell us about your tutoring needs. Providing student and subject information, as well as preferred availability will allow us to schedule quickly and efficiently. All new parents/students are required to complete a Registration Form which includes Tangerine Tutoring’s Terms & Conditions and Cancellation Policy.

  • Our tutoring sessions are currently one-on-one; the majority of students who reach out to us are looking for individualized support. However, if you are interested in group tutoring, let us know and we may be able to accommodate.

  • For the safety of students and tutors alike, all in-person tutoring sessions are held in a mutually agreed upon public location, such as a library or a café. We do not provide in-home tutoring.

Virtual tutoring sessions are held online using Google Meet. Students are not required to have a Gmail account to attend Google Meet sessions; links are emailed directly to your preferred email address. There are video, audio, chat, screen sharing, and whiteboard features in Google Meet that allow for very effective tutoring.

  • Unfortunately, we are unable to offer drop-in tutoring at this time. Check back soon, as this may be available in the future as our team of tutors continues to grow! If you are looking for tutoring on an as-needed basis, we do have an “à la carte” single-session option available for you to schedule.

  • Tutors do not work with the student’s school or teachers. We are happy to structure our tutoring sessions based on the course syllabus and current class lessons; these must be provided to us by the student or parent. We often have parents who will share with us some insight they received from the school/teacher, but it is not the tutor’s responsibility to communicate with the school or teachers on the student’s behalf.

  • We are as flexible as we can be! There are time slots available morning, afternoon, and evening. We do prefer to keep regular schedules (i.e. weekly appointments). Please keep in mind that Tangerine Tutoring operates in Central Time, and time zone differences may have an affect on availability.

  • At this time, price is based on the grade level of the student, subject matter, tutoring location (for in-person sessions), and any special requirements which may be requested by the student or parent. Tutoring costs range between $45.00 and $60.00 per hour. Discounts are available for pre-paying and pre-scheduling, as well as referrals!

  • In-person students have the option to pay by cash, check, or invoice. All virtual students must pay by invoice. All invoices are emailed to your preferred email address and can be paid directly online with no additional fee. Payment is due before the first session when pre-paying for multiple sessions, or at the time of each session when paying à la carte for single sessions.

  • Yes! Tangerine Tutoring offers discounts when “buying in bulk;” pre-paying and pre-scheduling not only guarantees your tutoring time slot, but also offers you a discounted hourly rate!

We also offer one FREE tutoring session for referrals; if you send a student our way, and they sign up, you earn one free tutoring session (1 hour) for you or your student!

  • The following cancellation policy must be agreed to on the student’s Registration Form prior to the first scheduled appointment:

If a student chooses to cancel and/or reschedule an already-scheduled appointment, they must do so a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the scheduled timeslot. No-shows and cancellations/rescheduling that occur less than 24 hours in advance will have a $25 flat rate invoiced or deducted from their prepayment.

Students are allotted one (1) cancellation/reschedule per month; if the session is not made up within that same month, the session is forfeited. Two (2) or more cancellations/reschedules in a given month will result in the loss of the tutoring time slot and the student has the option to be placed on a waitlist for a new time slot.

All appointments are subject to change and may be rescheduled and/or canceled at the tutor's discretion with reasonable advance notice.

View our Policies for more details.

  • Yes. Once assigned, students will meet with the same tutor for each of their sessions, unless otherwise requested. On occasion, if a tutor is unavailable to meet at your scheduled time and you would prefer not to cancel the appointment, another qualified tutor may be able to meet with you.

  • All students are expected to arrive to their session on time and prepared with questions, material, homework/assignments, etc. If the student does not have any homework or material assigned at the time of their tutoring session, they should come prepared with the current class topic, and tutors can provide practice material and instruction relevant to the class.

  • All tutoring sessions will be held for 60 minutes (1 hour), unless otherwise agreed upon.

  • Yes. If a parent wishes to attend a tutoring session, we ask that the tutor is notified ahead of time, or at the start of the session. Parents may listen in but should not participate in the lesson nor cause distraction to the student. If the parent has questions or concerns, they should be addressed directly with the tutor at the start or end of a session (if time allows) or sent in an email.

  • Receiving tutoring does not guarantee grade increases or passing grades. Tutoring is meant to provide supplemental support in addition to the instruction received by the student at school. While it is our goal to increase knowledge, confidence, and grades, it is still the responsibility of the student/parent to put in the work outside of tutoring. Like most things, academic success takes practice! We know that school is not always easy, and classes can be difficult, time-consuming, and stressful. We hope students leave tutoring feeling better than when they walked in!
